We had an unexpected visitor to the farm this weekend, and he hadn't been here all summer, and described to me (while I blushed) that when he pulled up to our farm, he slowed down to like 3 miles per hour, and thought he was entering Monet's Garden or something.......
that had to be one of the most wonderful comments anyone has EVER given me......
Throughout the day, but always in the morning with my coffee, I walk the gardens.......glancing over the weeds, and enjoying the beauty of the plants, the sunshine, or even the cool mist of the morning.............
I simply cannot put into these pathetic words how enjoyable a Potager can be........
it has taken over 8 years of calloused hands and an aching back to achieve what I have done thus far........and it isn't even CLOSE to be what I long for it to be.......
but it takes alot of weeding.......every day is a necessity........even if you see that one single long piece of grass through the daylily - pull it out immediately -
obviously......I am certainly not talking ALL about the weeds in my garden....
this morning, while actually weeding in the garden, I realized, I like weeding......I like seeing the imperfections......and I especially like ever so carefully pulling the whole weed up from it's roots never to return in that exact spot again.......it doesn't mean that it won't grow unnoticed somewhere else........but that's okay.....I'll pull it out again.......
it relaxes me..........
and after all the weeds (that I saw) have been removed, there are still more weeds out there (there always will be)
funny thought........you all see pictures of my garden, and some of you have given me very generous compliments, but you don't see the weeds by just looking at the garden.......and neither did our friend who stopped by this weekend......
and that's okay........because we shouldn't care about the weeds.........we all have plenty of our own in our own gardens............

Good Morning!
ReplyDeleteYes, I like pulling weeds too...and edging with a pair of old scissors. It is like therapy with the Earth! We are made of the earth and it is soothing to be down on hands and knees with your hands in and on it. I like my morning time outside too, I feed Samdog, put the bunnies in their outside pen and turn on the waterfalls. Then I meander and make sure everything is as it should be before my little charges arrive to play. We are in the middle of a round of summer colds and I am wiping noses all day. Am I the only one who likes to see what happens when you tell a 2 year old to blow?? Sometimes I get razzberries....Lilah is 1 and she can blow her nose with the best of them, heehe! Have a great day!
Blessings~LillySue
Lovely garden...I wish to one day have one as beautiful as yours! Thanks for giving me a new way to look at those darn pesky weeds!

I HATE weeding. I don't use that word too often. However, when I was out watering I realized I really need to get my behind out and week.
ReplyDeleteGuess what I'm doing tomorrow!!
Your place must be just magnificent!
:)
I really like weeding too. Thank goodness because my husband hates it. What do they say "a weed is just a plant in the wrong place".
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Carole
Monet's garden what a wonderful comparison, and osunds like such a lovley relaxing place to be.
ReplyDeleteI like to weed too, something about pulling those things out that relieves a ton of tension.-but don;t tell my hubby:-)-
The ulitmate compliment ~ when someone slows down to appreciate what you've done!

I am down on the farm for a few days and freaked out about what I will be coming home to!!!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is lovely. It is so funny how guests see the color up high and we see the weeds creeping down below, sometimes I have to stand back and look at my garden like it's the first time instead of sighing on all I don't have time for. I love my garden so much, I should tell it more often.
And, my dear, yours is really amazing.
And frankly? We notice our own weeds more than other people do!
ReplyDeleteHello Anne Marie,
ReplyDeleteYour garden is so beautiful! We have lots of weeding to do in ours, but it is something that makes you feel good to do!
I was really encouraged by you saying that it has taken so many years to have your potager the way it is today, and how much more you desire to do. It does take a lot of work and it is worth it, but I must remember it takes time, too.
I agree with your friend, your garden does look like Monet's! Thank you for sharing such loveliness.
Love, Paula
I wish I had such a wonderful attitude about weeding. It's by no means my least favorite activity, but I wouldn't say I enjoy it. Although, if I keep reading your posts I might just learn to like it.
