this room I re-decorated for my guest of 5 days (and now as a "permanent" change) has a little background, and if you 'know me by now', you'll know that I pretty much have a story for everything, and that you have to sometimes be quite patient with me to the end..... See.....when our barn burned, our insurance company denied our claim, but still gave us money for the personal property that was in the barn, which was significant due to the many years of accumulation of antiques we were using for decor in and around the barn....
sooooo.......with that money, we decided to renovate this room ......... total tear down......and the first wall that my husband took down had wiring, and within those wires it was chewed through both the hot and cold wires by mice (yucka and eeeewww I know right?) - which meant that at any second, those two wires could have caught on fire and our home would have gone up in smoke...........at any second!!!!
.......they were millimeters apart.......
what if the kids were inside asleep.....
the good Lord let our barn burn, so that we would have the money to fix up this room, and find the wires, and save our children, and our home and all we possess....
I know right?! a little closure for the barn burning......
(let's not digress too much here)
we found douglas fir floorboards underneath that my most fabulously creative and handy husband cut and designed and laid like this:
we both wanted to keep the red, so we distressed it and added a stenciled border at the 4 corners to give it a unique look "like a rug"....
and the ceiling was low, but underneath we found sky blue beadboard (because it was an old front porch)......being blue is my favorite color, we repainted it the same blue after peaking the ceiling and adding a fan....
tomorrow, we will look at the decor.........

Soory about the fire. I am glad the kids are safe. That floor is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe floors and ceiling are so beautiful, can't wait to see the rest.

That is so cool that you managed to figure out the message and the blessing that was disguised in all the hectic and loss of your fire, but what a blessing, someone is looking out for you and your family. Good stuff (: Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI do believe this was divine intervention with a little frosting on top! ;-) The floorboards are gorgeous and I love what you did with them!! The blue of the ceilling is perfect as well. I hope you post Part II tomorrow, patience was the virtue until I got to the end of THIS post!!

ReplyDeleteHi Anne Marie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! I am so glad you did because it led me to your blog. It is beautiful! I love your photographs!
So sorry about the barn, but I do believe that God used it to allow you to find out about the other wires and protect your family and remember He gives beauty for ashes. :)
So glad to have found you.
Adrienne
I have been meaning to gently ask over and over again why you did not rebuild the barn...not that it would have been the same...but none of that matters after reading this post.
ReplyDeletePraise God for revealing that wiring to you!
That room, well, it was all I could do not to snuggle up with Aidan on that bed when we went to check it out. It is a wonderful place to retreat to. I can not wait to see more photos, the things that you enjoy the most.
What a story!!! I agree with you...what a miracle. I bet you weren't thinking that at the time though. Love, love the ceiling...did I tell you I love it?:-)

ReplyDeletethanks for leaving those comments......thank you!!
I love the look of exposed wood--that floor is cool.
ReplyDelete...yes, God does work for our good. We had a similar, but different experience, when a pipe burst in the winter time and did a tremendous amount of damage to our home. In the process of tearing out walls, we discovered a major support beam that was close to giving way due to unseen and underlying old damage from before we owned the home. My boys' bedroom was just above that support beam; our own bedroom just below it. I saw that as God intervening on our behalf, too.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog....thanks for sharing your life in words and pictures!
the floor is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteeverything happens for a reason, this I believe. Your floors are stunning! I popped over to the Coty blog and agree with her every word.
