Within the Potager on the farm here, we have dedicated a few areas just for the children.......for the children's garden.......this photograph on the right, was just taken the other day, of the girls plot......
they tend it themselves........including: planting........weeding........harvesting..........
and I always let them sow some flowers as well...........
the girl's did a fantastic job.........
and the boys' plot is still growing strong........
I'm not the type of gardener that stops in September.......
we sow peas, new carrots, and don't like bare ground.......
it's a waste to let this nice cool temperatures deter you from gardening.....
because some crops actually sweeten with the cooler temps.....such as:"Joe's famous beets"
ready to be harvested now......but let them sit, and they will even be better.......
Since we are a Certified Naturally Grown Farm, we do not spray or use any pesticides or herbicides.......just lots of elbow grease......
give a man a fish, he eats for a day......teach him how to fish, and he'll eat forever......

what a wonderful confirmation.....the kids garden. i am a crazy gardener in the desert of AZ and LOVE IT and always get the little grandkids out there to help...which they truly do with joy....i'm "seeding" good life skills into them via the garden....
ReplyDeletewe're contemplating a move to a larger piece of property and my mind is whirling with ideas - one of which was to plot out a section...just for the Kids Garden....so, great idea!

ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome. The kids have done great on each of their gardens. There is nothing like having fresh vegetables and fruits and made even better when you grow them yourself. I have a small garden and love it.

WOW Those children really know how to garden! You have taught them a skill that will stay with them for the rest of thier lives.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much children really get into gardening. My grandkids all garden too. They will come to my house and go look at my garden and discuss it just as if they were adult friends of mine!!! I love that!!
My garden is over for the season. Kinda sad and kinda a relief. I needed a rest ;-)
Giving them responsibilities at an early age gives them life lessons that will carry them thru life.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
ps....but I guess you already knew that...lol
