rising up.......

one could say I 'have risen up'........and after being knocked down like I was, it really didn't take much to get 'up'......when you have five children, and a farm, well......you really don't have time for that sort of thing........really...........

so I got out an old cookbook (Searchlight) and started thinking........
I don't know how to can! so, I taught myself, and I pretty much want to can everything now.....

with all those apple peelings, I made SO much apple jelly that is (pat on the back) oh so good.....

but the best part of all! was that I got my mind off of my 'heartbreak' with adding more work (I know; a little ludicrous)...........and......I got to use my old kitchen hutch to a more advantageous way.......

much more in the 'keeping' of the old farm house, and to look over and see my hard work shimmering in the sunlight through the old wavy glass fills me with a
wonderful sense of accomplishment -

this was the before........
then the after:

  1. Hi Anne Marie,

There is nothing nicer than seeing bottles of produce in a kitchen dresser. I have quite a few in my kitchen cupboard, but I hate to admit it, but, I think they have gone off. I just love the look of them in my cupboard and I know the women who made them so they are quite special to me. I'm sure yours are delicious.

    and.....

I know our husbands would get on famously well with all that woodworking running through their blood.

I can hear it now... there is something special when men start to talk about timber, their carpentry and their cabinetmaking.

  2. Me again,

I forgot to say that the best way to fade fabrics is the leave it on the clothline in the hot sun for a couple of weeks or more, especially here in Australia in Summer, we have a very harsh sun.

    Light will fade anything...

  5. The canned items look at home in your beautiful hutch. And the table in your prior post is just gorgeous and so well made.

  11. we put up over 400 qts just this season and counting, all organically grown and yes, here on the farm! We have a cool root cellar here as well, full of taters, pumpkins, squash and yes, sage and oh yes, apples galore... lots of work going on always... a huge work in progress but a great vision. now just more time and moeny is needed but if it was all done then what fun would that be :)
