gone.....

Our chickens and other fowl are locked up in the evenings.....otherwise they are free range.....
but there is such sad news here....

Fred and Redfoot are missing......

gone................................

I certainly was never prepared for losing animals on the farm....I thought (there was my problem) that it would be like Charlotte's Web and have the same Menagerie for years and years ....come to think of it - they had their animals always near the barn....

well, Anne Marie is learning the hard way, that my (super awesome) Grandpa was right when told I was moving to the farm he said, and I quote, "don't get attached to the animals....respect them....care for them....but nothing more"

Grandpa knows me well - for he knows that ever since I was running through his garden catching frogs, or saving the injured bird, that I do get attached.....I just cannot help myself.....

they all have personalities....all unique....never perfect.....

but Grandpa was right...is right.....and once again, a farm lesson learned the hard way....and a life lesson for the children as well.....

Life goes on here at the farm....it has to....and so, I hope you are all enjoying your weekend thus far, and for me and my crew here at Na-Da Farm, we are going to miss Fred and Redfoot, very much.
(I'm secretly hoping they are playing at the creek - which they never do - but hoping nonetheless)

I love my camera.....

Where has Anne Marie been? Where are all her loooong posts you say?
It's probably more rather: "phew! glad Anne Marie isn't making us read all her junk!"
Well, I've been at my parents' "lake house".....
(and I took so many wonderful photos there to share with you)
Photographing my dear Marina....over 250 photographs taken in the past 5 days (not just of Marina - even though I probably could)

~working on the Summer House~
what was going to be my retreat has slowly been creeping into my shop named:
"the Summer House...a Na-Da Farm shop"

But ultimately, Anne Marie has been here:

For the time being, I have traded in my sewing machine for my shovel....
however...always looking around...and never forgetting the rest of the grounds....
When a rainy gloomy day hits the farm, I will be able to visit so many of the treasured blogs that I love and those I haven't discovered yet....
~I surely hope you are all enjoying the beautiful spring/early summer we are having~
Have a great day! (again!!)

True romantic inspiration....

There are so many wonderful people who inspire me, and Laeriss at http://heartinprovence.blogspot.com/ does just that....
she isn't a Na-Da Farm Chick (yet ;) but I'm working on it.....
Have a great day! I'm heading outside with my little sis...who IS a NDF Chick~

A fashionable waddle....

The spring in our step seems to have become more of a dragging waddle....so many people are getting down I believe from the accomplishments they missed, the dreams that were crushed, and other expectations that have faltered...
I have the solution! let's stop thinking of ourselves, and start doing for others!! Even if it's your next door neighbor who is expecting her third child and needs her garden put in....or maybe it's a stranger who just needs a little help to her car with the groceries....

Someone with good style and a great sense of fashion might know these things....because in order to notice that someone needs help, it often times is quite obvious! Like the girl with the oh too short of skirt who should really have that a-line ankle length skirt, that elderly lady who is at the grocery store with a cane in one hand and a very heavy purse in the other and is barely making it to her car - well - she is showing you that she needs your help! and that next door neighbor who is expecting her 3rd child and needs her garden in...well...isn't it obvious! that she needs your help too!!??

Let's all stop looking at our own problems and start noticing others from the outside and ultimately be helping within....

I'm off to the nursery to buy more plants~ wish me luck! (I'll probably have to stop by the bank first and take out a home loan just to afford what I want...uh..I mean a need)

PLEASE, tell me....are you all having trouble loading this blog? I know many people are having trouble, and well, with the videos I have on here, it might just be causing trouble.....
so let me know- and I'll remove all the 'stuff' ~
thanks so much!!

Bloomin' style....

The bridal wreath spirea inspired my clothing and accessory choices for a night out on Friday...~this bracelet is absolutely one of my favorites~
Before we left, a few garden chores needed to be finished...

~skirt made by me, embroidered top is from a local shop~

~Hope you all had a great weekend~

And a special "hello" to all the new faces here at Na-Da Farm Life...you all have been so warm and thoughtful, hilarious and charming....

Peace...

Peace .....to each manly soul that sleepeth;
Rest.... to each faithful eye that weepeth...

Barn Memory

Please let my playlist play while you watch this video....
Madeleine Peyroux says it best for this one....
video
My dear brother in law stayed with us all through the night...watching the fire, recording the early morning embers.... as our shocked and weary bodies rested....thank you so much Steve and Eric for all you had done for us that night...your efforts were unexplainably welcome.

Three years ago, we were sipping our favorite Merlot in our Summer House in the barn....
Three years ago, yet it seems only yesterday....
Tomorrow I am sharing with you something I put together in memory of not just a structure, a barn, but of part of American history....of our family's history....
our Na-Da Barn......

Garden Gate....

Just beyond the perennial garden path....beyond the Mary garden....is my Potager...
I now have a gate to the kitchen garden, that my husband made like double doors....
They have to be painted white still yet, however, I love them all the same.....for now, Sue and Sally (my favorite little hens) are not allowed in there to scratch for food...which means the veggies are safe (at least from them)
SUMMER HOUSE:
Before anything is done inside the Summer House we are power-washing it...to make it clean and bright :) so, if you have your space you are converting....then wash it down thoroughly to insure the best possible start to your space.
Have a great day!

As you might have known already, the kids are schooled at home, and it's just about the end of the school year for us....which is always so exciting! I will miss the formality, and the structure of what school brings to the farm, however, I welcome more of the chances to read to little darling outside on the blanket, bringing oldest to football practice while the kids and I play at the park, but mostly, just reveling in the outside more - for all of us - instead of our heads in the books -
SUMMER HOUSE'S NEXT STEP: start your decorating!!

aren't you just totally exciting for summer~ me too ~

The key to a clean home.....

Lettuce is up..... Cabbage plants and brccoli plants also are going in as well as more tomatoes, peppers and of course flowers!

It is planting season here on the farm, it has been for the past month, and this week is finally time to get the warm season crops in....

So, if you want a clean house.....live outside!!

enjoy your day.......your way...........
