custom made bookshelves/built ins...* |
Our first night in our apartment, in an old house nearly 14 years ago, my husband and I both had boxes to unpack.... no joke, my husband had twice as much as me.... he was removing skulls....teeth....found artifacts...animal skins....rocks and me? what was I unpacking?? I had ever since I can remember gathered sea shells by the sea shore...rocks (lots and lots of rocks)....bird's nests and other found objects from hiking and such...not to mention books....we didn't know we had this in common! that is actually what started my interest in the 'museum room' and now, it's not strictly in the sunroom, but has made it's way to these bookshelves.... |
a beaver skull I believe...talk about 'organic art' |
after posting these pictures, I can see I'll be rearranging again! like removing that little lighthouse and small grouping on the bottom there - the marble urn/book/candle -
what a great way to test out your decorating....through your lens!
built-ins were custom made by my oh-so-talented and charming husband - it is bead board on the back, black walnut tops and double crown on the top
~Enjoy your weekend~
xo+blessings,
The built-ins look great! I really love the collections you both have gathered through the years. You know when I first visited his fiance at his farm in Colorado I remember thinking, Ayyy...how are going to merge our styles because I al totally a city girl. But once I went inside I discovered that we had more in common than I thought! So it was a nice surprise. BY the way I love the nature background sound on the blog :) Very relaxing.
ReplyDeleteCollections make my heart sing. I love all your shells. Shells make me happy.
ReplyDeleteSo great seeing you last night. Such fun! You girls are the best!
I love your bookshelf and your collection of old bottles and sea shells. You have a very artful way of displaying your collections. Of course the display of books say someone interesting lives here!
ReplyDeleteI love your built ins and your display of natural found objects.
ReplyDeleteI have been collecting all of those things too and only thought to display them this summer. So much nicer than having them packed away in boxes.
Good morning Anne Marie! What a lovely post to enjoy with my morning cup of coffee. Your built-in bookshelf is wonderful! Your husband did a fantastic job! I love the way you have it filled with all of your collections from over the years. I especially love all of your glass bottles and seashells... very pretty! I've rearanged things many a time after taking pictures. It's amazing what you don't notice until you see it in a picture. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Hugs ~ Jo

ReplyDeleteMy husband built our bookshelf built-ins too! Ours are pretty cluttered with treasures we've found through the years and books.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Lorilee
Okay, I have to ask why the books are pages out. How do you know which one you're grabbing?
ReplyDeleteHey green girl..........I did that right before the photo shoot for the book with Fifi - it gave it a clean look - and surprisingly - I do know where each book is, I categorize them: farm/animals, adventure, religion, etc
ReplyDeleteSo... I'm sitting out on the porch with my laptop enjoying the day and admiring your lovely bookcase when I think to myself, who the heck is coming down our driveway on horseback?..too funny..you got me!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend,
Lynea
Isn't it great to have a carpenter at home? Love the nature history room. I was starting that theme in our foyer. Now I just need a few sculls:)) haha

Your bookcases are beautiful and I love the way you put your shells in the bottles. Very creative. I have so much fun browsing through such amazing blogs as yours and coming away so inspired every time.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
Kathleen
PS - as I sit here and type this, I'm holding Abigail on my lap. I wish you could see how intently she is listening to the beautiful sounds of nature coming from your blog. She loves it, as do I.
Loving your built-ins! I too have a love of sea shells. I have a grouping in every room...I love the memories of our trips that they bring up every time I see them.
ReplyDeleteYour display is beautiful, I can't imagine you making it any better!

Oh so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me to do something with my custom (by the hubby!) bookshelves and shell collection. :)
Now this is art! I love all the natural history going on in the room. I don't see how it can be improved on, but I'm sure you will find a way Anne Marie. The shelves are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI went back to read the previous post and it touched me deeply. You put so beautifully into words what I feel in my heart so much of the time.
When I read the message you left at my place I was so grateful to know you and proud to call you friend.
I know that you know how blessed you are to be living the life you live...but just let me say it...you are so blessed! And you are a blessing...
hugs
Dear Anne-Marie, what a wonderful idea! So many beautiful, historical things - I love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd your bookshelf looks so great, with the curtain, then one would also like me.
Have a nice sunday,
Hugs, Yvonne
P.S.: I have just sent you an e-mail.
Dear Anne Marie,
ReplyDeleteYour husband is a star. What a great carpenter he is...... and what great collections you both have. All of these things are what make a house a home and it's lovely to put all of the things that you both have found, on display...... and, like you say, you can re-arrange them and change things around whenever you want. The other great thing is that, all of the things that you have picked up on your travels are free!!
Hope that you and your family are well, Anne Marie and you are all enjoying the summer. XXXX
