we don't have air conditioning
it's over 95*
with 80% humidity
I'm SERIOUS when I tell you that I (as I type this) have a bucket of ice in front of my fan
but Bella isn't posing like this cutie basset hound

funny thing is: the ice and fan works......thanks Denise for the idea!!
can anyone say autumn?
xo+blessings,
:) Love the image!
ReplyDeleteTemps are fall-like here. When I stepped outdoors this morning, I had to run back in for a sweater.
Stay cool & have a wonderful day, Anne Marie!
Oh no! You poor thing! Is your system broke? We went through a whole summer (with windows all on the west side) in our first place (condo) in Joilet. Do you have a basement to stay cool in? That's where I'd hang out if ours was out of order. It's suppose to cool off for the weekend a bit.. hopefully this will be our last humid week. Take care & drink lots of water!

Oh, I'm so sorry. I know how draining this heat can be.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for living in the moment, but when summer starts making a nuisance of itself..it's time to move on. Autumn, autumn, autumn.
Wishing you cooler days ahead,
Lynea

Hello,
ReplyDeleteJus' found your blog an' I'm sure glad I did. I am SO anxious for Autumn. This heat is enough to make a person jus' lie down an' wait 'til Cool remembers where we live. So here's to that wunnerful time of year... Auuutuuuuumnnnn.
The thermostat was at 103 degrees yesterday an' the humidity was waaaaay up there; around 78. When I read this post, I immediately wanted to share a trick we've learned to help us survive the heat on accounta' we don't have air-conditioning, either.
If you have a nightgown or an old long T-shirt or somethin' you can wear an' still be decent, put it on an' get into the shower. Soak in water as cold as you can enjoy. Then, after wringing out the excess, wear it, wet. DO NOT, however, get in the shower with underwear or pants on. You can put them on when you get out, but if you wear them in the shower to get them wet, you will be sore in places that are not fun.
I truly hope this helps. In truth, my good hubby-buddy did finally put in a window a/c, but that was after many, many, many days an' nights of exhausting heat. Now, we have our bedroom air-conditioned an' when we had guests over for dinner, yesterday, guess where we ate? Mmmm, hmmmm. That's right; the bedroom.
In the other rooms, the temperature was well-over 100 degrees an' everyone seemed to appreciate eating in the cool, on top of the ironing board. An' yes, I do consider myself reasonably high-classed and able to live among normal people in society. I don't live in a cave or anything like that. LOL.
Good luck to you. Stay cool an' keep prayin' for Autumn 'cause I need it, too.
~ Yaya
I grew up without AC, so I know how you feel. what a great image, love those ears! And yes, I'm so looking forward to fall!

Sometimes I think the only reason my kids have so many friends is because we are the only house in this historic district that has air! I can't even tell you how delighted I was when we found an old farmhouse with central air. Truly, it was a determining factor!
ReplyDeleteIt was hot when we were roaming your beautiful prairie yesterday. Wanna come over for a few days until the heat subsides? *smiles*
Blessings... Polly
We finally had a cool day today....it was heaven.
ReplyDeleteWe just put in central air at home last year....now I wonder why we waited so long!

I have read in Provence that they soak their muslin curtains in water so the wind blow thru them...
ReplyDeleteand lavender in the window frames to keep out the scorpions...
I think I would rather deal with the heat!
Anne Marie-
ReplyDeleteI understand heat-
It was 107 here today.
We'll make it !
And then fall will be here.
Do you have fall planting plans?
Laura
Dear Anne Marie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant photograph.....I'm afraid that it's pouring with rain here....but, the garden needed it.
I think that it's raining in Italy, too....not to worry, we will still have the best of times.
Will take lots of pics for you.
Try and keep cool. XXXX
Oh my goodness. I am sorry your A/C is not working. I am ready for Fall too, since it is my favorite season of the year. And I never heard of the ice in front of the fan. I am going to have to try that!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, must be awful!
ReplyDeleteI was calling for Fall some days ago and..wow, it seems to have worked! It's pretty cold now here and today I wore my Hunter Wellies to walk the dog, exactly what I do in Fall and Winter!
I really hope you can find some rest and some fresh air.
Hugs to you my darling,
Fra
I feel for ya! Our thermometer is showing 100 outside right now. Humidity is almost always pretty high here since we are less than an hour from the Gulf of Mexico (South Texas). AC going out in August is our worst nightmare!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Lorilee
I wanted to let you guys know that it's not the air stopped working....I just don't have it! ugh!
