as you can see, I only have a few plates left...they are getting used and abused since we switched to hand washing our dishes...and I would love to find some ironstone ones now....
(though I would really like to become a potter and make them myself...)
they are so much more functional than what was there - and a cinch to put away! (and display)
we left the barnwood on the sides all beautifully raw and rustic...
I like keeping some of the items on there corralled - especially my silver pieces - I use those everyday (those forks I just got at my local antiques store...and baby Daniel thinks they are pretty great!)

we sealed the 'counter top' area with our bees' beeswax - it is made from Douglas Fir (like our flooring)

I love it, Anne Marie! Just gorgeous. Little Daniel, I like those forks, too! Stoneware dishes are the best. Heavy but, love to use them. We only hand wash dishes around here. Dishwashers take up space and energy. I like the idea of the box for the cups and the little stool on the top shelf is cute! So nice, all of it. I hope Jason's back keeps getting better everyday.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not a fan of open shelving for dishes (because of the dust factor), I think the barn wood shelves are great!!!! Mine would hold containers of inside herbs (if the lighting was right) - and my every present 'goodie dome' (which I see you have a similar one on the top shelf). Keep watching the thrift store....you will find those stoneware dishes one day! Have a most wonderful week!

ReplyDeleteOh, I love that! I love how you've arranged everything on them too...with things that are pretty, but useful too. I'm in the process of talking my husband into building some shelves for my dining room. There's a unit I love at Restoration Hardware, but I don't like the price so much so I'm hoping we can make something similar ourselves :)

I have always wanted to learn pottery making, and I received a dinner plate sized battery operated potters wheel when I was about 8 for Christmas. A turtle could have run faster than that wheel turned, but I still enjoyed it.

ReplyDeletelooks great! 2 little things: my father made us tables from barnwood (thick floor joists) years ago and we love them...what we did not know was the wood had some sort of powder beetles deep in it...eggs maybe, and they hatched out years, yes years later!!! had to get rid of those needless to say! 2nd, i got my ironstone white dishes (the heavy restaurant type, perfect for our crowd) from target a couple years ago...they have been used and abused...wear like iron!

PS: I love ironstone, too. All of my dishes are mixed and matched ironstone that I buy at the local thrift stores. White is just so pretty...your dishes look gorgeous!

Oh my goodness, Anne-Marie! I am completely and utterly in love!!! It looks fabulous. Oh and I know you must think I have forgotten about Louisa May Alcott but I promise I have not. ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea--and so unique. It fits the space well. I only started hand washing because my dishwasher broke....;) But it does use less water....
