So how did you all do editing your homes over the weekend??

If you started making progress......that's good.......but don't let it stay that way.........

seriously......get rid of anything that doesn't mean something to you........

the thing about styling your own home, is to have it reflect you........

how do you achieve this??

buy what you love
put odd characteristics together

I don't shop at Home Goods or Hobby Lobby for decor items...that just isn't me

I just sort of do whatever feels organic...

like when Gilberta started laying her eggs this past month, it seemed only right to put them
out for display...

but it doesn't have that 'punch'

maybe it's because I have five kids and STILL expecting the sixth
but whatever the reason...the eggs under the cloches just
isn't what I'm thinking....

this is more of what I'm thinking:

I'm no professional.......and my idea of 'style' is evolving it seems into an area that I didn't know existed!

I used to be all about antiques, but now, it seems, that I would like to add more eclecticism into the decor........some bold colors.......just pops - keeping the background neutral - in white and tan.......

just as life evolves, so can your style

LET IT HAPPEN!

the worst thing you can do is get in a rut...and not try adding a new look

if you like that large glass turquoise vase at the thrift store for $5 - buy it -

if you want to add an old school blackboard to your living room wall - do it

if you like all your kitchen utensils packed away for a change and nothing on your counters - super!

TRY a NEW style....by just editing what you have....

though my hands may be calloused from working around this farm in the summer, winter time they are inside tending more towards the interior
once spring really comes, that fresh bouquet of flowers are just the right accent (like in this photo - with the peonies on the coffee table)

let's see where this will go.....

  7. I love how down to earth both your blog and decorating style are. Everything is organic or plucked and rotated from one room to another. I love that there is never any pressure to have to buy said item to make your home look and feel lovely. My family of four lives off of my husband's first year teaching salary in a teeny tiny rural school so I truly appreciate your natural, no-cost decor.

  8. I love your eclectic organic decorating style. It is totally me, although I have a problem attaining it in my own home. I need to do more daydreaming and visualizing. That will probably help. A few extra bucks wouldn't hurt either...LOL!

  9. I planned to edit, but the truth is I didn't do it at all. My little garden just called to me, and I've spent the last few days, weeding, planting, and cleaning up the yard. Our weather is just so perfect right now for being outside :-) I'm planning a yard sale in a few weeks, so I will get to the editing though.
I'm still praying that your baby comes soon :-)
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  10. I forgot to mention that my editing consisted of making room for a giant galvanized trough complete with baby chicks and(extremely messy)ducklings in our living room. I have to make room for a second one next week. I love hearing their sweet little chirps.

  11. Im slowly getting there.I think there is a fun way of putting things you do love together.Maybe a home with the things you love give it character and reflects about who you are.I like this post.No stork seen yet?? I have alot of ducks coming in our yard and laying eggs. Have a sunny day..Chickie

  12. I agree so much with what you are saying. Having decided to change the whole look of my house it is becoming what I call 'Sherbert and Champagne'. Lots of pastel colours and chandeliers. - I am very pleased with how it is evolving considering that I never buy anything unless it's from a charity shop or car boot sale. Love the pictures you posted.

  13. Hi Anne Marie,
I did edit this weekend. I cleaned my hutch in the kitchen and put a few things away, it felt great!. Also Gary and I planted and added fresh bark around all the new plantings and established plants also sprinkled snail bate..LOL. I don't want to feed the snails my new pretty flowers. We still have the side of the yard to go..Our yard is pretty big and there is always yard work to do. Gary cut a few camellia's for me for a sweet bouquet for the table. The weekends go by so fast especially when we loose an hour...
Have a sweet day and big hugs, Elizabeth

  14. I used to be very good at editing our home because my husband and I moved quite a bit during our first 10 years of marriage. If it wasn't worth packing, hefting, and moving, it wasn't worth keeping!

We've been settled for almost a decade in our current home and things have begun to accumulate...this is a great reminder to only keep those things that mean something and that when it comes to decorating you make your own rules! I love it! I am newly inspired!

  15. Oh Anne Marie,
You know, I agree with my whole heart. I always call the kind of eclectic things, curious goods, other people may not get what I like about it, but I do and we're the ones living w/it.

I love your style and how you're comfortable in your own skin!

  20. Lots of purging going on here because we are moving, but that makes it easy to edit! I guess the key is just buying what you love or are drawn to, and let it lie in your home organically...no "staging" for the perfect "look". But I'm no expert either ;)
I hope the next post I read of yours it that you are snuggling with the new baby!
    XO

  21. I enjoy the evolution of my Style and seeing how it unfolds for others too. I have very eclectic tastes of a broad range and so change is inevitable in this ole House. *smiles*
