Bad breath: The avocado is one of the best natural mouth wash and a remedy for bad breath...WHO KNEW!?
Cholesterol: An avocado contains oleic and linoleic acids that are effective in lowering the LDL cholesterol and increasing the healthy HDL cholesterol.
Immune system: Regular consumption of avocados strengthens the body's immune system.
Muscle and nerve: The high potassium content helps balance our body's electrolytes, aids muscle activity, nerve function and energy metabolism.
Caution: People who are sensitive to latex should avoid touching or eating avocados as it contains an enzyme called chitinase that can cause an allergic reaction.

here's a "not-so-local" na-da farm avocado smoothie recipe:
(serves my crew of 7 in juice glasses)
Get out the vita-mixer your great uncle gave you....peel/core one whole avocado and put into blender with 1 cup ice & 1 cup milk & 2 teaspoons of agave nectar (use yogurt instead of milk if you want)
blend on high
yum
Hi Anne Marie
ReplyDeleteI have just recently found your blog after seeing the beautiful pictures of your farm in "Romantic Prairie Style" - your home was my favourite in the book!
I love avocados, but didn't until I became pregnant with my twins - then I got so addicted to them I would have to have at least one every day! I still enjoy them from time to time, although not in that quantity!
These smoothies sound lovely -thanks for the recipe!
Now I'm going to have fun exploring around your blog!
Have a wonderful day
Renata:)

It's sounds tasty. I'm adding avocado to my shopping list right now. Do you purchase the agave nectar at a natural food store? Our grocery stores here are limited in their "healthy" food extras!
ReplyDeleteBlessings-Kimberly
Hi Kimberly....to answer your question: I found the agave nectar at my local grocery store (and I live deep in the country)

I grew up in Southern California and ate avocados growing up. They are one of my favorite foods. I put them in salads, sprinkle them on top of chili and tortilla soup, slice them and put them on burgers and sandwiches, make guacamole, etc. I love them. I haven't made them in a smoothie before and this intrigues me...I just may have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteI love avocados and this sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe just might have to try it while my daughter is in town!
Have a fabulous week!
Hugs,
Donna
