herbs are starting to be hung to dry in the kitchen.....

and being that I don't have a summer kitchen outdoors (someday I hope!) it sort of feels like it with that ladder up there and the fresh herbs drying

when you are drying herbs, they shouldn't receive any sunshine - hang in smaller bunches from hemp twine in a dark place-
I like this spot because I can snip here and there when needed in recipes, but soon the herbs will be harvested and dried in much bigger quantities for storage for over winter

this is the time I start thinking of food storage....canning......freezing......

I receive quite a few emails in regards to 'how I do things' with the grocery shopping/etc.......
and I'm working on that to show you who are interested
but it takes time

I've been calculating things, making notes, writing this and writing that
August 15th is the big reveal of the October Barn Sale/Event theme as well!!
I  can't wait to let you all know about it!

back to the potager I go.........

  1. Your kitchen is such a bright happy space. I had to chuckle when I spied the "no smoking" sign right near the stove. I immediately thought of cooking something a little too well done.

  2. I love how bright and cheery your kitchen is! How wonderful to have fresh herbs to enjoy and to dry for later.

I wanted to thank you for "introducing" me to Josh Garrels through your post a few months ago. My husband and I now own a number of his cd's and play them over and over. I didn't know if you knew he has a new cd out "Love & War and the Sea in Between". He released it in June and is actually giving it away for free! It is awesome - one of his best in my opinion. Here is a link if you're interested: http://joshgarrels.bandcamp.com/

Thank you again for featuring him on your blog. I love real, organic music and deep, meaningful lyrics. It has really enhanced the atmosphere in our home!

  3. Your kitchen is the perfect bright and cheery country kitchen! I would love to hear more of how you do it all...I can, freeze and store also and am always looking for advice and better solutions, especially if it includes living from your garden and less visits to the grocery store.

I enjoy how you change your header picture! Enjoy your day in the garden ~

  12. I didn't know about the dark place, and here I've been drying mine near the kitchen window. Thanks for the advice. I'm still such a novice gardener, but I learn a little every summer :) It was downright cool when I was out working in my little garden this evening. Just checked the temps outside and it's 66 degrees. Doesn't sound like the desert, does it?
Have a wonderful weekend! The organic restaurant sounds wonderful.
    Blessings,
    Marcia
