Oh, Anne Marie, I'm always so saddened when you share your stories about the loss of your beloved barn!
I don't think I ever told you (b/c I knew that it paled in comparison), but remember the barn that I've blogged about in the past that is located in town...it also rented out for parties, art festivals, flower shows, etc.?
Well, 1-year ago, on Good Friday, a tornado ripped through our tiny town (nothing like what happened in Joplin) and DESTROYED the beloved 150+ year old barn. The owner was devastated...as well as the townsfolk. So many of us attended Blues and BBQ events (good ole KC BBQ!!!), art festivals, and birthday/anniversary/weddings in that barn.
Chris and I had just agreed to host Mary's 6th birthday there that summer...she was over the moon excited...and was just crushed when she learned of the loss.
I did take both of my kids there...pre-Luke :) to see the damage and help with the clean-up. There's been a few fundraisers and the owner continues to hold the art fair and sunflower garden, but it's just not the same w/o the barn!
Interestingly, when I posted about the loss (on Her Little Ways), the owner of the barn contacted me via telephone to thank me for writing up such a beautiful post in tribute.
Goes to show you...you just never know who reads your blog!!!
Daniel is such a sweetie. And while you probably don't want to hear this...he's looking more and more like baby and less and less like newborn! ;)
Hope all is going well with you, my friend! I am SOOOOO loving your more recent posts. They capture the true essence of who you are AND remind me of when I first started following your blog!
I often wonder what or how it happened when you post pics of that amazing space and building...I think my heart would have broken when that happened, and you 'could' say well, it was a building and no one was hurt etc, but 'such' a building, the age of it, the worn and special timber, doors everything about it, lost ...yes, its a building but you can never get it back...and yes, my heart would have been broken for sure..............I think my favourite thing about those pics is the buffet, fold down trestle....just beautiful....Hope you are feeling a little less 'noised out' this weekend.....
Anne Marie, I just love this post. I really love the comments of the people who posted before me. Such nice stories and memories. Some are sad, but there are also beautiful and joyful stories. I have sort of hinted at it, but the truth is that I look at your blog for inspiration all the time. I'm so glad we have you!!! Have a wonderful weekend with your beautiful children. ♥
Oh my gosh, Anne-Marie - how did it burn down? I hope that no one or no animals were hurt. :( I'm glad that you still carry the memories with you and have some photos, too. I see that you've been tweeking your blog page. It looks nice! :) Hope you have a blessed holiday!
WHAT AN AMAZING BARN & WHAT A SHAME! Just realize you were blessed to have it for a time... so sad it was taken. THANK YOU for sharing your treasure. Have a happy 4th! Charlene
That's such a sad story Anne Marie. What a beauty it was. You have such great country style. I love visiting here and your crocheted customized drink glass holders are awesome! The pic of your little one, I am assuming, with wet hair and a slice of watermelon is magazine worthy! SO cute! xx Alison
I followed a rabbit trail and found myself here. What a lovely blog! I only looked at pictures today, but I'll be back and read later. Your photography is very moving!
