a new store...and Annie Sloan Paint

do you ever see "diy" stuff here?

nope

well, rarely

do you ever see Anne Marie painting something?

nope

why is that you wonder??

hhhhhmmm....could be because I like making cupcakes rather than painting, or even weeding for that matter

I'm not much of a painter, but so admire people who do it well, and with the right
'stuff'

so downtown in DeKalb, there is a new store

and Christie, the owner, is a certified, bonfied, dealer of this precious paint....

when I was there shopping, and meeting Christie, she was just opening the first boxes......

so exciting!

she's a total cutie, and we hit it off......we had so much to talk about.......we literally talked about repelling in the south to flea market shopping.......

if you are in the area, her shop is a must go!!

I even picked up a great turquoise metal youth chair that is now my oldest duaghter's art chair
(more on that this week - we re-decorated her room!!)

here's Christie!

make sure you tell her I said "Hi!" when you go in.........

so........who out there has used Annie Sloan paint?? and what did you think?
(I really like the finish it gives on the furniture.....a softness about it)

  1. I never head of chalk paint until I stumbled upon Miss Mustard Seed's sweet blog. She does the most amazing things with chalk paint.

What a lovely downtown you have! Ours is slowly withering away in this terrible economy. Our town, not even big enough to qualify as a city, has been hit hard these past few years.

  3. You might want to check out Modern Country Style blog - Sarah has been championing it, and giving demos. And met Annie to get the lowdown!

  4. I've heard so many great things about Annie Sloan Chalk Paint but have yet to use it. I'm looking for the perfect piece of furniture. But just for the record...I'd rather be making cupcakes, too!

  6. Thank you so much for telling us!! The chalk paint is so pricey and then when you have to add shipping cost...ouch! I am so happy someone in Illinois is stocking it now! I will be making a trip to her store soon.

  7. I gave my daughter a can of Old World White, ASP. She painted two coats on an old mantle and did not even make a dent in the quart can...it is pricey, but it goes a long way and there is no primer needed either. The mantle looks beautiful. I clear waxed distressed, and finished it off with dark wax. I also painted my slate foyer floor with it, and satin poly on top. You can see it here, the color is graphite.

  10. Annie lives down the road from me and I'll be taking one of her classes soon. I am so excited, I can hardly wait. I have furniture that needs painting but I must resist the urge till I have her technique!

  11. I do use Annie Sloan's Chalk paint and I love it! I do like to paint, furniture that is, and ASCP is wonderful. The colors are gorgeous and the paint covers virtually any piece of furniture regardless of what the finish is. It dries super quick and once dry you apply a wax that seals the piece and creates the most amazing finish that feels like velvet, seriously it does. It's not inexpensive but it's worth it! I wouldn't paint my pieces with any other paint.

  14. Hello Everyone! First let me say Thank You Anne Marie for featuring my little shop and ASCP on your blog! Enjoying all the chatter about the paint and our quaint little downtown! Many of our customers simply can't get over how truly amazing this paint is. All it takes is one touch, then people's eyes light up and the questions start...which I LOVE! I hope that if you are ever in the DeKalb area you stop by the shop, we're open every day except Tuesdays. It would be so nice to meet you and chat about the paint!

  15. I bought eight chalk paint colors, dark wax and a wax brush. I paint alot of furniture and have a booth in an antique mall as well as sew bags and aprons...lets just say tht it used to take me 2-3 days to finish a piece between sanding, priming, drying between coats, antiquing, destressing. Since my chalk paint expedition in Mckinney Texas I have painted 17 pieces of furniture usually 5-6 pieces a day lined them up and used all different colors no sanding no priming and one side of a dresser dries while you paint the other side. Most colors only need one coat some surfaces may need a touch up after that but not two complete coats. Old white usually requires two coats unless you are looking for just a dry brush technique. So as a furniture painter who I feel in love, blessed and addicted to AS Chalk paint. My items that I have painted are selling 1-2 days of being placed in my booth as people are raving over the colors with the european feel and it is alot different than all the booths with just white. People are ready for a little color in their lives or I am just getting those people gravitating towards it as that is the style that Anthro uses. The softness of the patina is due to the texture of paint and the wax and I think most people are being drawn to that over satin finishes as you see in the furnishings at Anthropologie, sorry for the long comment but well I love love love the paint and you asked! Lol

  16. Just put my books in the old Ethan Allan dark pine, 30 yr old bookcase which got one coat of ASCP in olive green then the dark wax. My daycare kids had scratched and distressed it so much. But the paint did it's job and the labor was much shorter in time. I will do more things like my cedar chest and bentwood chairs. Oh, also did a shelf and both items used only half a can total. Amazing.
