it is never too late

instead of laundry I walked the prairie

instead of preserving cucumbers I grabbed my camera

what I thought was to be the day turned into something greater....better...

may I ask you something?  why is it that the two most glorious months are filled with school lessons??

May and September should really be off

I could actually say that about December too

and even the ever joyful spring in March

I don't free school...but I do live freely.........and the prairie is glorious right now!

that little tail is connected to her very best friend in the whole world...

it's never too late to enjoy the day

  2. It is never too late. The lessons learned from a free day on the prairie I'm sure are immeasureable. Nothing that you could learn from a school book and days she will keep with her for life. I wish my children had a prairie to explore....
Hope these early days of fall are finding your family well.

  4. A free day in the prairie, I am sure, teaches more than a lesson day or, better, teaches so important things that only nature can teach us!
    Beautiful post Anne Marie!

  10. Hi Anne Marie,
My husband, my two dogs, and I went to the Afton forest preserve (south of Dekalb) Monday, and it was gorgeous. I wish Sept. and Oct. lasted for six months of the year then Dec. and May for the other six. A girl can wish. Looking forward to coming out to Na-Da- Farm this Oct.

  12. You live in such a beautiful place Anne Marie....so different to where I live, in the suburbs of London although, there are fields and countryside but not on your scale !! The perfect place for children to grow up. Beautiful photographs as well. I can hear in your words how happy you are to be where you are. XXXX

  21. September has always been my favorite month. I wanted our wedding to be in September, but my maid of honor could only come in August(because of school-college!). One of the things I liked so much about homeschooling was that we could enjoy September. We often did very little school work and took off for some camping on the coast instead. It is the best time of year to visit the Northern California coast. You have that freedom too. So enjoy your prairie with your children. ox from one homeschooling mama to another

PS I really should write a post about this someday...when I homeschooled we spent most of our days outdoors, going places, and they learned so much by 'doing'. Now that my children are grown and in college, my baby H.S, they are honor students. Their professors/teachers are so impressed with how highly educated they are. My daughter says, "it really was all the reading we did"...they read a lot and not just anything, but you know those good old books that you can only find in homeschooling catalogs, and literature, poetry, etc. Education to them is enjoyeable. They love to learn, rather than the chore it becomes from being in the boring classroom 8 hrs a day.
