little cabinet

it is sitting in my dining room's corner...all rustic and worn now....

i have always liked pie safes, and this one for under $10 at a local store caught my eye, and though I don't have any before pictures, it is just a new piece, was maple, and nothing special

it also had a thick wire on it

we removed the wire and put in this old screening and took off the handle completely

our daughter painted it in old white anne sloan paint, then distressed it

:: she did a wonderful job ::

it was recently photographed for some food styling i have worked on with traci thorson as the photographer

maria's cabinet and amazing styling was my inspiration for the shot
(these are not the pictures by the way of the food styling....it was of a savory pie :)

now, for the next part of this week's renovation........

what the 'hay' to do with this shelf above my sink! i love the sign that i bought from stacey back here at the may sale, but too summery for me right now

what to do!  suggestions would be fantastic.....

peace + blessings,

  2. I really thought this was an old cabinet...your daughter did such a great job!

I love that sign, it would be hard for me to part with it, even for the season!

  3. Oooh, I too love the "Camps and Cottages" for rent, but I do understand your desire for a bit of change. I know you've said in the past that you aren't one to necessarily "decorate" for the holidays...rather seasonally...perhaps wheat stalks...amid pumpkins, gords, squash...maybe some type of "harvest" or "farm" signage...bittersweet among sunflowers in browns and reds? eegads, I'm horrible at suggestions! :)

  5. Fantastic work by your daughter!
    It's darling.
I was going to mention pumpkins or such. But you already got that. So, what about a sweet and simple row of apples...and maybe just some twiggy little branches if needed for texture? Apples are so bountiful right now and are totally speaking my Fall love language.

  10. Your daughter did an amazing job with the cabinet, Anne Marie, it's beautiful!
Pie safes are wonderful for holding many things and it's so easy to change their looks by what is stored inside the cabinets themselves.

    Have a great week!

  14. ooohhh *love* it! as for the shelf i have no idea, my creative juices just aren't flowing with the remodel on hand, simply boring installing windows kind of stuff...sigh...it will be good to get back to normal and fluffing! :0)

    p.s.
received your message about a saddle for your daughter and her horse...what type of breed is the horse? we have thoroughbreds so when buying a saddle we have to make sure the tree of the saddle was made for that type of breed. most saddle makers are building saddles to quarter horse withers so you could look on ebay and find some great deals there...if you have a saddle maker near by check with him to see if anyone has brought in a used one they are looking to sell. hope this helps a little...hhhmm...it is always hard to find a good saddle especially for little ones! :0) xoxoxo
