for me, it's not when you walk into a home filled with items from homegoods or new furniture stores, but things they have accumulated over the years...from flea markets, roadside stands within their journeys, items they have collected within their walks in the woods, or that antique that caught their eye and spoke to them somehow - how they purchased it and took it home with them...
i am one of those people that likes to surround myself with items that we love
so many of us are...
i am one of those people that likes to surround myself with items that we love
so many of us are...
it's not to show off to others or impress friends and family, or at least, it shouldn't be
right now, i am wanting my walls and bookcases dripping with books and textures and all sorts of pictures and collected items
something that will be more expressive in who i am...who we are
this can be difficult when i over think things, and don't have that certain couch i have been eyeing for years, or that old school cupboard at the local antiques store, or the chandelier being replaced, etc, etc....but making do with what we have can be discouraging, or it can be even more of an expression of us
most of our furniture and items were given to us or bought at flea markets or tag sales or local thrift stores
I can honestly say only some of the fabric used for curtains is new - it's just how i am - how we are -
our splurges are on that special piece that we find and know it will fit right in
but how do we know how to express your soul into your home?
embrace what you own, look for treasures....but most importantly, be comfortable with who you are right now and it will be shown how ever you choose to place things in your home
peace+blessings,

This is so true...I love to find that perfect piece for my home usually on the side of the road or buried in an old junk shop. I would rather have something old with a story of it's own. It's hard not to follow trends with all the inspiration out there but I love a soulful home....I can feel that in your home too.
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying this beautiful Midwest fall.

True, true, true. I love an ecclectic feel in a home. I love all the pictures; they "speak" to me!

I couldn't agree more! There's nothing I hate more than walking into a home and you just know that they waltzed into a showroom floor and said "we'll take it". I would rather live in a tiny shack surrounded by things I love, than a McMansion with no soul any day!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!! Wonderful post, love all the pictures!! :) Have a great Monday! xo Holly

ReplyDeleteHello AnnaMaria! Your comment of today could be of me: I also think like you! I only like homes with personality, with a individual style of the person who lives there. Best wishes!

ReplyDeleteso pretty and thoughtful post..I was just thinking how my new home has allowed my soul to truly come out and how when I go home after a long day my soul just breathes it all in and is at peace. Thank you for blessings my day.
ReplyDeleteOh so true. My home is filled with treasures found. Beautiful old doors, windows, gates etc. that have so much history. I love that they have been reloved into my home and given new life. It is the history behind these beautiful pieces that I love. My fav pieces in my home are not the store bought things but the lovely treasures I rescued from the trash and gave new life too or found treasures from the flea markets. They all have such history and a story to tell. Thanks for posting this it really hit home with me.

Anne Marie,
ReplyDeleteYou so inspired me that I took some pictures from around my home today of treasured and repurposed items I use to express myself in my home. I gave you a shout out on my blog as the inspiration for my posting today. Thanks so much.
Kris
I love and get what you are saying. Most of the things in my home are old. Passed down by family or found at flea markets, or antique stores. They all mean something to me. I can remember family trips or times when I was with my children or husband. Every piece is a memory. It embraces me when I come home and I feel comforted.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with that. I love the photos, Even this wonderful blog too. Thanks a lot. I'm having a wonderful time.
