upon this day...

the sounds of farm life here are now of a 'new to us' tractor....Jason cannot work the farm by hand like he used to...he knows this....and we don't know the first thing about having Jordan (the horse) pull any implement, and so happy to say, this little blue beauty is now hard (and I mean hard) at work here....

dare I tell you in advance that the size of garden we are putting in is most likely going to cause me to have many more hours than i even imagine planting, weeding (oh the weeding), but able to bring more to the local restaurants, our family, and in storage....eating all the organic vegetables we want.......(and there is a slight possibility that this excitement is also because the corn crib is going to be my potting shed/studio....just a slight possibility....)

the girls and i tried our hands at making 'Carnitas' and then the next day using that pork, 'Tamales'

enough to feed this hungry army........and pretty much the whole town nearby.........

as the night falls, the three candles are lit and this little farmhouse is glowing

i even found time to knit and cuddle and listen to tales of old........

xo + advent blessings,

  1. Now I know what your last pins were about...I mean...the potting sheds, those wonderful vegetable gardens....oh my....yes, you will have to spend many many hours there but I am sure you will do wonderful things and the family (and the near town) will get so much good food from you!
Look at Daniel...on his brother's shoulder, your daughter contemplating dad job, Jason himself..he looks so proud and serious!! I love you guys! Really!

  2. Looks so cozy!
Ah, weeding. Or as it is otherwise known as HowISpentEverySpareMomentLastSummer. Going to do more no-till and lots of mulch to try and help with the weeds this year. Not even wanting to see seeds yet though. Maybe in February!
All the interior shots look so delightfully cozy.
And oh, a space of one's own. Longing for that here, too.

And are tamales hard? My mom really wants to learn, and I'd love to help her, but I have no idea where to start. :)

  6. Hi, I love your stories about your beautiful family, and I was wondering if you all have a TV? or if you watch it if you do?
    Thanks, and Merry Christmas

  7. I'd like to encourage you and your family to gather around the computer and watch the Back to Eden film. You can watch the full movie and it is wonderful. The man in the film is a Christian and he shows you how to garden "God's way". I've watched it several times and it is amazing and so common sense. Especially the no-weeding part. Hope you find time to watch it and enjoy it. Have a wonderful day.

  8. I love the pictures of beautiful family time in your gorgeous, warm home... I know you treasure every minute with them.

Oh, tamales... I have not had them in forever! Sounds delicious.

I'm sure your husband is enjoying the tractor so much. :-)

P.S. Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog recently. It meant so much. Oh, and one more thing... loved the article in Where Women Cook!
