if you live in an area where the winters are cold and icy, you know what I mean
the wind has been blowing so hard the past 12 hours, you'd think spring was here...but the wind chill is about 14* they say right now
we are thick with school, and everything else that comes with being indoors for a few months...the sounds of cards being shuffled, book pages turnings, and the kettle whistle blow to a serenade of the piano are most often heard on the weekends to pass the time
this cabin fever makes or breaks a family
though the children would much rather be outdoors building snowmen, the rain the follows the snowstorms prevents that from happening...but we are grateful for the moisture any way we can get it (even though it does make for a slippery gravel driveway with all that ice!)
Ah, the wind blows like she has a temper, like she too is tired of being cold
soon enough the warm air will blow...so I better start planning my garden and starting seed indoors like my mom has started I'm sure....
this week is broken up a bit, and the blessings of the ashes are on Wednesday to mark our eternal reminder that we are but ashes, that we come from the earth
what a beautiful thing
what a beautiful thing this cabin fever does to my soul, giving it rest, and those around me more rest
the toil we will endure soon enough will need all the strength we can gather
xo+blessings,
Anne Marie I have been following your blog for sometime now and you have inspired me in every aspect of my life, from wife, mother, catholic, homesteader, homemaker and even my blog has been affected by you!!! I have changed my blog completely to talk about living according to seasons. I love your post about cabin fever and I am asking you to please write me a guest post about either winter or spring. My readers will love to read your poeticle writing.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to access your blog since you left blogger Solange, and it keeps coming up 'no access'....

DeleteGoodness, we were all feeling the same way around here, and now we have 50 degree weather! I agree that it is so nice to have a season of rest...and time to get some good schooling in. I have been planning my garden, too. Isn't it fun to think about warm Spring days and the smell of the earth warming? I am sooo ready!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day... and first week of Lent. Can you believe it is already that time of the year?

I didn't get a chance to bake that cake of yours (darn)...and yes, I am excited to think of warmth
DeleteI do love the slow pace of winter, but I am starting to long for warm sunny days. We are having the gusty wind here, too, of course. It's a little unsettling but should be over by 4:00 I hear.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, Anne Marie.

Jane

Hi Anne Marie,
ReplyDeleteLiving in Montreal, Canada, I know exactly what you mean. Love these snow photos!
such encouraging words..and beautiful pictures. I grew
ReplyDeleteup in New England and now live in California and the
most winter we get is a little bit of frost which we are
experiencing every morning. I miss the snow and cold winters
and more then ever the chance to slow down and the resting time
a good cold winter provides. By the way, I think
you would really enjoy the blog 'Roller Mill Farms' if you are
not already aware of it.
