it can sometimes be the messiest place in the house, but it is still the first room people walk into at this old farmhouse......
the scent of lavender is adorning my entry right now.....
An old wire and metal garden gate got tucked behind a folding wood table, that I skirted with some antique French linen.....and it is just what I needed to create a new look in my entryway......
(the glare was terrible from the front door...sorry!!) |
I brought in a statue of an angel from the potager, my wooden dough bowl from Romania, two potted boxwood basil, and a few other objects that where getting lost in other places of the home......
like this silver goblet from Hungary, which originally was held high filled with wine by my great-grandmother at her wedding celebration in Hungary.......
it's the oldest family heirloom I own.......
soon the rustling of grasses and the scent of freshly picked apples will be in place of the hydrangeas and lavender in the entry, but for now, it's still summer....
xo+blessings,
xo+blessings,
very welcoming...and isn't lavender the best scent on earth?
ReplyDeleteAnne Marie, as always a delightful arrangement. It is so pretty. And lavender really is such a welcoming scent. I have to ask, did you grow your own lavender?
ReplyDeleteYes, I do Angie...I cut it back pretty severely in autumn - and use the leaves for cooking with - the plant then gets covered with a heavy pile of leaves...it seems to help over winter the plant
ReplyDeleteSharon: I totally agree.......
Anne Marie - What I love about your decor is that it's just right, not too much, not too little. You really know how to edit so that the result is simple and beautiful. Your lavender is lovely!

ReplyDeleteVery pretty and welcoming Anne Marie. At our friends house this summer they used lavender oil in tiny saucers to perfume a room. Amazing!

I have a big dough bowl that I've hidden away until I can fill it with grey pumpkins but this post has inspired me to cut some lavender and fill my dough bowl with it. Lovely inspiration.
ReplyDeleteOh I must say, It's so lovely but I can not bare to cut mine because the color brings me so much pleasure out in the garden. Everyday I look at i and think how lovely it would look in the house... and then I change my mind... then when I finally give in, it's faded and I have lost my moment.
ReplyDeleteYou have clearly captured it.
Love, Ange

It's all so beautiful, Anne Marie! I feel like I've been swept away to the french countryside. I love the combination of the rustic garden gate with the french linen... dreamy! I was just out clipping some lavender to bring inside today, too. The smell is divine. Thanks again for the beautiful inspiration!

Anne Marie - what variety of lavender is that? I've seen it a couple of places but am not familiar with it?
ReplyDeleteHi Liz....as far as I know it is "French Lavender" that is what it said on the pot when I purchased it from a nursery nearby......sorry I don't have the genus name!!
