never too young...

we start reading to the children when they are six months old....when they can sit up and look at a book

books are a big part of our life.......we absolutely devour the stories

sharing them with each other.......reading to each other.......hearing their take on the excitement and thrills and mystery and sadness within the stories

books are not replaced with nooks and others electronic devices........they are treasured here
whether from the library or from the bookstore

we learn from them and gain interests in this world from books more than anywhere else

we are not gathering our interests from the TV or many movies, and though some of us like Pinterest, it's when you see it in a book and you look at the care put into showing you in her/his style....and how you support those authors!  There's nothing better than books, and you certainly are never too young......

  1. Amen! Wonderful post. As a former public school educator, I was blessed to amass quite the collection of easy reader/picture books, early chapter books, and several classics. As Mary has blossomed into reading, she now devours the books that are stored in tubs in the basement (I have 20 tubs...more than our personal home bookshelves can manage!) that I personally collected over 10 years of teaching. Add to that, books from grandmas, aunties, friends, etc. we love our books too!

And you're right...no nook can ever replace the beauty and feel of illustrations and print!

    Blessings,
    Valerie

  2. I agree!
I started reading to Giovanni when he was sooooo little!
Glad to hear I am not the only "crazy" one out there doing that! I think he will remeber it someway and I hope this will help him becoming a good and passionate reader just like Denny and me are.

This pictures are pure joy Anne Marie.

  3. EVERY single room of our house has books in it. Even when mine were babies we read the "Babybug" magazine and board books. You can't get too many words--I agree!

  6. Dear Anne-Marie, I´m glad to hear that other persons also love books like I do. As a child my brother and I had only books no TV and nowadays I must say, it was good and I missed nothing. Today I have a bookshelf with hundreds of books and they are for me like a treasure. Best wishes for you and your family, Geli

  7. I agree with you so much... I have read to both of my girls since they were tiny, tiny. I never mind spending the money on books, particularly since we don't have a TV. These are precious photos... I don't have children old enough to read yet, but there is nothing my older daughter loves more than to have an older child read to her.

  8. Anne-Marie,

I'm always captivated with your pictures and words, but you have to know I'm swooning over this post. Would you mind if I re-posted a photo with a link to your blog? My blog is all about the beauty of the library and your visual wisdom would be a real treat for my readers. Just let me know.

  9. Aww....I agree too, I love holding a book and reading it and looking at all the beautiful photo's in it..I love decorating and travel books. My little grandson who is 7 loves to read to me and I love to hear him read. His big sister who will be 14 this month reads to him also. Books keep our imagination alive.

  10. The photo's of your children are priceless! I love the way they all eventually get drawn in to the story! We, too, love books! I have an iPad, but have never put a book on it. I love to feel the pages beneath my fingers...just wouldn't be the same!
    Thanks for sharing!

  12. Well said..
Reading is the key and your children are way on their way to having unlimited knowledge..
My grandson reads everyday and is only 6..
It's the most important tool you can give a child I feel and builds an imagination when their book takes them on wonderful journeys..
    Have a great day..

  13. I agree with you 150%. We do not have cable, I do not watch tv., I think it is a waste of time and money and there isn't anything much worth watching even if there is 300 channels. My husband watches his programs on the computer. I love to read books, all my life I have loved to read. My mom gave me my love of reading, she would take me to the library and to the story hour. She would also allow me to take out extra books on her adult card, kids were limited to 4 books back then. I love to read to my grandaughter, tv can't replace that.
