when we spot something in the world that is unfamiliar to us, what do we do?
if we didn't have the correct bird book, we wouldn't know that what we caught a brief glimpse of was a native bird to our area, but rarely seen
a northern harrier
i did not take this amazing photograph! |
I suppose we'd probably, later that night, look on the internet for the answer.....
gone are the days when the wonder of something doesn't keep conversations going and a mystery of what you discovered and am searching out the answer for.......
books used to be treasured this way........more so than they are now.....technology has taken the place of that wonder.......we can instantly know what something is........
I like the wonder.......I like not knowing it instantly........there is something so special about talking about it throughout the day.....with whomever you meet.....
Field guides are wonderful, aren't they. We have looked up wildflowers, birds, insects, etc.
ReplyDeleteHello AnneMarie! The nature is the most important for us .... Have a nice week! With love, Geli
ReplyDeleteWell said! Love that book!
ReplyDeleteWe live in the suburbs at the base of the Adelaide Hills, we have lots of birdlife in our yard (rainbow lorikeets eating my plums! at the moment) and its always question time for us, oh, I saw this bird , it looked like that, wonder what it was, saw a bird today that I hadnt see before..insects, butterflies...its all good...I love it that we still ask these questions and that we have children that still are inquisitive about the world around them.
ReplyDeleteso nicely said. I am a teacher and I am saddened at times at how children don't want to use books like they did when I first began. I still like the idea of wonder and letting my mind discover what it might be through books, friends, and not in an instant
ReplyDeleteBooks are still our go-to reference even though we use the Internet daily. We read physical books more than we do e-books (although I write ebooks so clearly I have nothing against them.)
ReplyDeleteAnd the library is still our haven. Some things do persist. And I hope this is one of them. :)
